Unhealthy heart.
so I just worked out. I am sweaty and feel very proud of myself. But today I don't feel well at all. Today, I don't know exactly when, I noticed that my heart has been skipping and jumping. I can actually feel it flutter in my chest and it scares me. I looked online and read about arrythmia and its most of the time quite harmless, but it can also be a sign of heart disease. I know my heart isn't healthy because I eat bad stuff, but I don't want to have heart disease. I ruled out caffeine because I haven't had any today. I stayed away from sugar and I got enough sleep last night. I'm not too stressed out so I don't know what it could be. I did have mcdonalds last night for the first time in a while, so maybe the cholesterol and sodium is kicking me in the heart today. It's just not comforting knowing that your heart isn't behaving the way it should be. Maybe I'm just having an off day. I won't stress it because if I do it won't get any better. A wake up call? I think so!

Dude I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you.
ReplyDeleteI mean keep an eye on it, but really I think you are fine.
Both arrhythmia and heart disease are both very broad terms used for more detailed problems. Most heart diseases are a result of a long long unhealthy lifestyle and you wouldn't have them at 19 years old. Any heart disease you could have now you would have known about earlier in your life. What are you doing is on the right path for avoiding heart disease in your future, so good for you :)
As for arrhythmias you are right in that most are harmless. I used to get skipped heart beats alot, and i still get them from time to time. What you are most likely experiencing is Premature ventricular contractions (PVCs). Basically an electrical signal in your heart kinda misfires but you atro-ventricular node is able to reset it's self very well. Getting these every once and a while is normal. If they continue for a long time though, either you should decrease the intensity of your workout for a while or talk to your doctor.
McD's is never a good food ever lol If you ever read the nutritional info. on that stuff it is insane. Cholesterol cannot instantly effect you heart like that. Cholesterol is a waxy substance that deals with the fatty substances in your blood, and there is good cholesterol. Bad cholesterol builds up over time and can affect your heart later in life. The sodium is very possible. When you ingest alot of sodium your body tries to retain water, thus increasing your blood volume, thus increasing pressure. Hard to say for sure though.
Our body is a crazy powerful and very adaptable so I think it is just still getting used to your exercise regimen. Remember to always start out slow and GRADUALLY build to your max level. Exercise is after all a stress on your body, so going 80% on your max the first week of your workout isn't the best idea. Once you get into the swing of things though everything should be great. I'm always happy to see people working out. It can benefit people in more ways than they know. Keep it up, you won't regret it!
